Nikiszowiec district in Katowice

Nikiszowiec is a part of an administrative district Janów-Nikiszowiec of Katowice city. Initially it was coal miners' settlement of Giesche mine built on the land of Gieschewald manor (Giszowiec) between 1908–1918 on the mining – metallurgical concern initiative Georg von Giesches Erben.
The remnants of the original workers' housing estate familoks (specialized multi-family residences) comprise one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments and signed on a list of the National Heritage Board of Poland.
Nikiszowiec is mainly known for its uniquely uniform architecture – red brick buildings accented with red-painted windowframing, and narrow streets joined by nice arcade. The neighbourhood was designed by Georg and Emil Zillman of Berlin-Charlottenburg to be a completely self-sufficient community for 1,000 workers with a school, hospital, police station, post office, swimming pool, bakery and church.
Please have a look at some photos that I took there.
